Creating a fleece blanket is a great way to stay warm during the cold winter months. Not only will you have something cozy to cuddle up in, you’ll also have something to treasure and show off for years to come. With a little bit of creativity, few supplies and a sewing machine, you can transform a simple piece of fleece fabric into your own personalized throw.

The first step to making a fleece blanket is to select the fabric. Fleece is a soft woven fabric with an insulating quality that does not fray, making it the perfect choice for a no-sew, machine-made blanket. Available in a wide range of colors, patterns and textures, you can customize your blanket to match both your decor and your own unique style. When selecting fabric, consider going with a pattern that is easy on the eyes as you’ll be spending a lot of quality time with your finished product.

Once you have the fabric in hand, you’ll need to decide what size you want your blanket to be. Keep in mind that you’ll need four times the length as you do width for the project, so if you want a 40″ by 50″ blanket, you’ll need to purchase fabric that measures 80″ by 100″. When it comes to cutting, use a pair of sharp scissors, cutting mat and ruler to measure and cut your fabric into equal dimensions.

Before taking the fabric to your sewing machine, it’s a good idea to give the pieces a good press. A hot iron with a touch of steam will help ensure that all wrinkles and ripples are efficiently flattened. Once the pieces have been pressed, you can now start to sew.
