Sewing machines can help make light work of many different types of tasks, from creating clothing to performing intricate repairs. To get the most out of one, however, the user must understand how to properly set up their machine. One of the essential tasks of this set-up process is properly placing a bobbin in the Singer sewing machine. While there is no single best way to place a bobbin, knowing the correct rules and technique can make the job much easier.

In almost every Singer sewing machine, bobbin winding and loading occurs in the top portion of the body, often called the “bobbin case”. The bobbin is housed in a circular plate and needs to be positioned inside the bobbin winder, which is the little plastic disk, roughly the size and shape of a dime that is near the bobbin holder. The bobbin winder is held in place by a few screws and can be easily unscrewed with a screwdriver.

Once the bobbin winder is removed, threading the bobbin is the next step. This can be done by taking the thread over the spindle and looping it around the bobbin a few times before pulling it tight. After this, the user should grab the thread and hold it up so that the remaining yarn can be wound onto the bobbin. This is done by turning the wheel on the side of the sewing machine and watching the bobbin winder turn with it, slowly winding the remaining thread onto the bobbin.
