Materials

Doing something creative is always a good way to pass the time. Making your own face masks without the use of a sewing machine is one of the more creative hobbies you can take up. The materials you will need include two pieces of fabric large enough to cover your face and a fourth of a yard of 1/8 inch-wide elastic string. Additionally, scissors, pins, and a ruler come in handy in such a situation.

Design

Once you’ve arranged your materials, you can begin to formulate a design for your face masks. Picking out different fabrics can be enjoyable, as you can choose whichever fabrics you find to be the most aesthetically pleasing. To make a contoured face mask, the two pieces of fabric should be the same size and shape. Additionally, take a few moments to measure the string to a length that fits comfortably around your ears.

Cutting

Using your ruler, you can draw a curved shape on the fabric, and then cut it out. Make sure to cut out two pieces so you can sew them together later. After you’ve cut out the two pieces, take the string and cut it down to four equal lengths.

Assembly

After everything has been cut to size, you can begin to assemble your face mask. Place one of the pieces of fabric down, and then place the pieces of elastic onto it. Then, place the other piece of fabric on top of the elastic and pin them together. Once everything has been pinned securely, you can begin to sew the two pieces together.
