How to Fix Ripped Jeans Inner Thigh with a Sewing Machine

If you’ve ever owned a pair of jeans, chances are you’ve had to deal with a ripped inner thigh issue at some point. In this case, a hole in the inner thigh area of your jeans is frustrating and the solution is often more complicated than it looks.

The first step in fixing a ripped inner thigh of your jeans is to identify the type of fabric you’re dealing with and what kind of stitch was used to make the jeans. You’ll need to gather and purchase the materials specific to the job, such as a patch or denim patch, an iron-on adhesive, a piece of scrap fabric for reinforcement, and a heavy duty sewing machine or needle and thread.

If you have a heavy duty machine, use a zigzag stitch with the fabric placed on the wrong side. Make sure the zigzag stitch is tight so the hole doesn’t spread and to ensure that the thread doesn’t break. Sew the patch over the hole, then iron it, and finish with a top stitch to secure all the pieces.

If you don’t have a heavy duty machine, you can use a hand stitch. Place the patch under the rip and glue with an iron-on adhesive. Once it’s secure, use a ladder stitch, a tiny stitch that binds the patch with the fabric. Make sure you tuck the needle inside the material to make it unnoticeable. The ladder stitch can be used if you’re working with fabrics such as denim, corduroy and twill.
