As you know, fabric is not always cut in perfectly straight lines. When you are sewing, it is important to have straight fabric so that your seams are also straight. There are a few different ways that you can straighten out fabric before sewing.<\/p>\n

To straighten fabric before sewing, first lay the fabric out flat on a smooth surface. Then, using a ruler or tape measure, find the center of the fabric and measure out from the center to each edge. Once you have done this, fold the fabric in half so that the edges that you just measured line up with each other. Finally, use an iron to press the fabric flat, being sure to use a pressing cloth to protect the fabric.<\/p>\n

And pull firmly refold the fabric once again aligning the selvages. Check the cross grain edges if they are still straight. Trim off any excess fabric along the selvages.<\/p>\n

This is a great method for straightening out fabric before cutting it into a garment. By drawing out a crosswise thread and cutting along it, you can ensure that the fabric will hold its shape better and will fit the garment better.<\/p>\n
