Needles on a Brother sewing machine can be a little tricky to take off. Here are a few tips on how to disengage the needle on your machine.

To disengage the needle on your Brother sewing machine, first make sure that the needle is in the highest position by turning the handwheel toward you. Then, holding the needle with your left hand, turn the flywheel (on the right side of the machine) away from you with your right hand. The needle will start to move down and to the left. Keep turning the flywheel until the needle is all the way out of the machine.

When disengaging the clutch, be sure to do so gently so as not to damage the needle or the machine. If the needle does start to move up and down, simply disengage the clutch and try again. Not all models will require this step, but it is always best to err on the side of caution.

If the needle is not correctly raised, the sewing machine can not be threaded. To raise the needle, turn the handwheel toward you (counterclockwise) so that the mark on the wheel points up.
