There are a few different types of sewing needles that can be used on denim fabric, but the most common and recommended needle is the denim needle. This type of needle is slightly heavier and has a sharp point that is able to penetrate thick fabric without difficulty. Denim needles also have a slightly larger eye than other types of needles, which makes it easier to thread thick thread.

There is no definitive answer to this question since it depends on the type of denim fabric you are working with and the look you are trying to achieve. A heavier denim fabric will require a stronger needle, such as a denim or topstitching needle, while a lighter denim fabric can be sewn with a universal needle. Ultimately, it is best to experiment with different types of needles until you find the one that produces the best results for your particular project.

What needle and thread is best for denim?

For sewing denim, it is best to use a good quality branded polyester sewing thread such as Gutermann, Coats, or Moon. A thin and strong thread is the ideal combination, as it is usually easier to keep the stitch neat with a thinner thread.

If you’re looking for good results sewing with a universal needle, we recommend using a size NM 90 to 110. For the best results, however, we recommend using a jeans needle. This needle has a reinforced blade which makes it more durable and able to penetrate multiple layers of material without quickly breaking.
